While residents east of Kenter self-evacuated, largely due to the ongoing power outage, the LAPD—assisted by LAX Airport Police and undercover units—patrolled the deserted streets. Some homeowners took extra precautions, hiring private security to protect properties left vulnerable by the deliberate power shutdown, which disabled cameras and alarms.

Unfortunately, not everyone escaped unscathed. On Oceano Avenue, south of Sunset Boulevard and just east of Saltair, five homes on the picturesque cul-de-sac fell victim to burglars exploiting the security lapse. The thieves made off with jewelry, cash, watches, purses, clothing, and other valuables.
Although LAPD currently has no leads, they remain confident in their ability to identify and apprehend those responsible for the break-ins.
